The NecroThon has now ended! It was a tournament running from July 21st to July 30th of 2014 to benefit six great charities and some of our favorite Twitch and YouTube broadcasters. There were prizes both for charities, and for the individual participants with the best scores.
We are extremely excited to have such a talented group of casters joining us for the NecroThon! This event is invite-only, and includes many casters who were NecroDancer's earliest supporters and friends. The teams are listed below.
PLEASE NOTE: The NecroThon is not endorsed by nor affiliated with these charities in any way. We just happen to like them and hope we can help support them!
Daily Challenge - This can only be attempted once per day! A player's score is the number of coins they possess when they die.
Hardcore Mode Speedrun - Complete hardcore mode as fast as possible!
Aria Mode - In Aria mode, players can only have a dagger and will die if they miss a single beat or take a single hit!
Dance Pad - This event requires players to play hardcore mode using a dance pad and their feet!
These four events will be contested both by the teams, and by individuals. (See "Scoring Details" for below for the particulars.) The teams with the highest scores in each category will win donations for their charity! The individuals with the highest scores in each category will win prizes for themselves!
Additionally, there are two "on the spot" events for individuals only:
First person to complete Aria Mode - Only a few people on Earth have ever completed this mode! The first person to complete it during the competition will receive a prize.
First person to complete Hardcore Mode with a dance pad - A truly difficult challenge! Again, the first person to do this will receive a prize.
For all events except the Hardcore Mode Speedrun event, a player's score is the number of coins they possess when they die. For the Hardcore Mode Speedrun event, the player's score is the in-game readout of the time it took them to successfully finish a run (without dying).
For the team Daily Challenge event, each team's score will be the average of the scores of all of that team's members. If a member doesn't post any scores, their score is zero.
For the team Hardcore Mode Speedrun event, we realize that not all players will be able to successfully complete a speedrun. As a result, each team's score will be the average of the TOP SIX scores from that team's members. (And a single member's score may only be counted once.)
For the team Aria Mode event, we realize that not all players will be able to unlock the "Aria" character in the game. As a result, each team's score will be the average of the TOP SIX scores from that team's members. (And a single member's score may only be counted once.)
For the team Dance Pad event, we realize that not all players have dance pads. As a result, each team's score will be the average of the TOP TWO scores from that team's members. (And a single member's score may only be counted once.)
Except for the Daily Challenge event (which can only be attempted once per day), players can play as many times as they like. However, only their BEST score in each event will be counted.
Players must use the "Cadence" character for all runs, except, of course, when using the "Aria" character for the Aria Mode event
Co-op mode is not permitted -- all events are single player. (Perhaps we'll have co-op mode events in a future contest!)
Players must submit a link to a video of each run as proof. A run without video proof will not be counted.
Dance Pad event submissions must include footage of the player's feet in the video, to prevent cheating!
All events must take place in the game's "Hardcore Mode" (or "Daily Challenge" mode, which is essentially a special variant of "Hardcore Mode").
The NecroThon runs from 12:01am Pacific Time on July 21st to 11:59pm Pacific Time on July 30th. All scores and video links must be submitted to our servers between those times for them to be considered valid.
